Translation Memory

Translation memory (TM) is a database that sits on your computer and remembers every translation you make in Poedit. It works in the background to help you speed up your workflow and maintain consistency.

Whenever you finish translating a string, Poedit saves both the original source text and your translation to your local TM.

Over time, you build up a personal library of your past work that Poedit uses in two ways: Smart suggestions and Pre-translation.

When you select a line to translate, Poedit checks your TM for similar sentences.

For example, if you’ve translated the sentence “File not found” in the past, and the current line is “Video not found,” Poedit will suggest your old translation in the sidebar. You can then insert it and make the necessary edits.

If you’re starting a new file that’s similar to a previous project, you can use the Pre-translate feature.

Poedit will scan the file and automatically fill in any exact matches found in your memory, saving you from re-typing common terms such as “Previous,” “Next,” or “Cancel.”
