Offline Translation with Cloud Services
Poedit integrates directly with localization management platforms like Crowdin and Localazy. This lets you translate files without leaving the desktop app and, more importantly, allows you to keep working even when you’re offline.
Connect your account
Section titled “Connect your account”To connect your Crowdin or Localazy account with Poedit:
- From the Poedit home screen, select File, then Open Cloud Translation.
- Select Crowdin or Localazy, then Sign in.
- Log in through the browser window that opens.
Once authorized, you’ll see a list of projects assigned to you.
How to use it
Section titled “How to use it”Once your account is connected, working with cloud files is just like editing local ones.
- Open a file: Select a project and language from the list to download the file.
- Translate: You can now work on the file just like any other local file. You don’t need an active Internet connection for this step.
- Sync back: When you are finished, simply Save (CMD+S on macOS or CTRL+S on Windows).
Saving the file automatically uploads your translations back to the cloud. To fetch the latest changes from other translators without saving your own work yet, select the Synchronize translations button in the toolbar.
Things to keep in mind
Section titled “Things to keep in mind”Saving vs. publishing
Section titled “Saving vs. publishing”When you save in Poedit, your translations are uploaded to Crowdin or Localazy immediately. However, they may not appear in the live project right away. Most projects have a “Proofreading” or “Approval” step that requires a manager to review your work first.
Syncing
Section titled “Syncing”Typically, simply saving the file pushes your changes. If you want to pull the latest changes from the server (for example if another translator has added something), use the Synchronize translations button in the toolbar.
